A former business manager for the Woodward-Granger School District was given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to first degree theft charges Friday.
After a negotiated plea agreement 35-year-old Melissa Lee Lantz has been given a suspended 10-year prison sentence and is ordered to three years probation, with a five-year no contact order. She must also complete 250 hours of community service, and pay a $1,000 fine as well as restitution to the school district.
Lantz was arrested and charged with first degree theft, a class C felony, last August after an investigation was conducted into a string of suspicious financial transactions in the District. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the State Auditor’s Office found that Lantz was the sole person responsible for $221,851.27 in improper payroll disbursements.
