The former Jefferson teen wanted for attempted murder in Ames has been taken into custody.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams confirmed to Raccoon Valley Radio that just after 4pm Thursday he and his deputies, along with the Jefferson Police Department and Iowa State Patrol arrested Rodney Dean Halterman at 1028 130th Street in Churdan. Williams says through their investigation, they learned that Halterman was staying at his girlfriend’s home and after the sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant to look for the handgun that was used in the alleged shooting incident in Ames, authorities surrounded the residence.

Williams notes that Halterman called the law enforcement center in Jefferson and said he wanted to come out peacefully, which he eventually did and was apprehended without incident. Williams adds the handgun wasn’t recovered in the home.

Halterman is facing a Class B Felony for attempted murder in Ames when he allegedly shot Ieisha Jabbar in the chest in a residence in the 100 block of South Russell Avenue on January 12th. Jabbar was treated and later released from Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Halterman is facing additional felony drug charges and misdemeanors for two separate incidents in Greene County. He is scheduled to go to trial on January 29th for those charges in Greene County. After he was arrested, Williams says Halterman was booked into the Greene County Jail.
