Perry Carnegie Library Museum

The Perry Public Library is hosting an event that will teach people all about its next door neighbor, the Carnegie Library Museum.

On Tuesday, January 29th at 6:30 p.m., the library is welcoming Professor Shana Stuart from the University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science, who is an expert in the Carnegie Libraries spread throughout the nation. Perry Library Director Mary Murphy says the program will include detailed information on the man who essentially created the idea of the modern library. “Learning about Andrew Carnegie, his life is very interesting. He targeted municipalities and libraries and said that if you will pay for the upkeep and the salary for a librarian, he will build a library in that town. And that’s how the Carnegie Library Museum got built in this town!”

The event will be held at the Perry Public Library in the large meeting room, though Murphy says there may be a visit to the Carnegie Library next door during the program. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required. For more information, stop in or call the library at 515-465-3569.
