Greene County dropped both games of a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Nevada on Tuesday night. The Cubs won the girls’ game 40-25, followed by a 68-60 boys’ final. The Rams fell to 0-13 overall and 0-9 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Cubs improved to 7-9 and 6-3. On the boys’ side, the Rams have lost six of their last seven games to fall to 5-9 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Cubs are now 7-6 on the season and 4-5 in the HOIAC.

Greene County trailed Nevada’s girls 9-7 after one quarter, but a 10-0 second quarter run by the Cubs put some space between the teams. Freshman Breanna Habben had 10 points for the Rams with sophomore Sadie Wilson adding seven points. Nevada was led by Kacie Rewerts with 16 points.

Trey Hinote scored 15 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter as the Rams came from 22 points down early in the second half to get within six late in the game. The comeback fell short after a 33-23 Nevada halftime lead turned into 45-23 just 1:54 into the third quarter. The Rams also had 13 points from Cael Fisher and 11 by Carter Morton. Nevada had 16 from Tyler Sansgaard and 13 by Kody Kruschwitz.
