The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

The bulk of the meeting was spent on the jail needs assessment. While Board Chair Jack E. Lloyd thought the meeting was meant to decide on which jail expansion option they were to proceed with, Supervisor Mike Dickson expressed wanting to send out a Request for Proposals to consult with a different architecture firm than Shive Hattery.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright commented on the $14,000 of work Michael S. Lewis of Shive Hattery has done for the County which came out of the sheriff’s budget, “He’s done what you asked, he looked at remodeling downstairs, he’s cut space out of a new jail to get it down further square footage as far as administrative space, not jail because we can’t. If we start over again it’ll just be, if we’re looking at August for the first time for a bond to be voted on, it’ll just further it. We’ve done this for 20 years with the jail the way it is, something needs to happen.”

The Board voted 4-1 to proceed to phase two of getting the blueprint for the estimated $6.775 million, 14,000-square-foot facility which would be adjacent to the courthouse. In other business, the Board approved the new law enforcement 28E agreement for Guthrie Center, which will take effect this July, and directed County Engineer Josh Sebern to develop a cost estimate of resurfacing Sage Trail, per the Lake Panorama Association’s request.
