Jefferson Matters: Main Street is working on a new public art project for the downtown square in Jefferson.

The Tower View Team Committee recently received approval from the Jefferson City Council to allow for four mini Mahanay Memorial Carillon Towers to be placed at the four alleyway entrances around the square. The inspiration came after Marc McGinn and Chris and Amy Milligan constructed the original model, which is being used as the investment drive thermometer located outside of the JMMS office on Lincoln Way.

Following approval from the City Council, four local businesses agreed to be sponsors of the towers. They include Jefferson Telecom, Peoples Bank, Wahl-McAtee Tire, and Tri-County Lumber. Tower View Team is now looking for local artists to paint the towers. A list of guidelines for the artists are available at the JMMS office and the list of artists will be given to the four businesses who will work directly with them. A plaque will be on the base of the tower, and will the name of the sponsoring business and the artist.

Interested individuals can contact Roger Aegerter at 386-3254 or at roger.aegerter@gmail.com. They can also contact JMMS Program Director Peg Raney at 386-3585 or email at director@jeffersonmatters.org. Names must be submitted by January 31st. The towers must be done by May 1st to be displayed throughout the summer and fall months. The mini-towers will be the property of each sponsoring business.
