There seems to be an unwritten rule in the sport of wrestling that satisfaction can never, or should never, be achieved. However, wrestlers can like the progress they or their teams are making. That’s the case with Greene County junior Will Hansen. He’s 22-5 on the season and unbeaten since dropping down a weight class just before Christmas. Hansen wrestled the first part of the season at 152, but is now at 145 lbs.

Greene County is 13-7 in dual meets, including going 3-0 last Thursday in Ogden vs. the host Bulldogs, Audubon Wheelers, and based on criteria, Southeast Valley (Gowrie). First year head coach Zach Beekman’s team followed that up just 24 hours later by winning the North Polk Round-Robin Tournament in Alleman. Hansen was one of four individual champions for the Rams and he was joined by seniors Brock Wuebker (170), Clint Dennhardt (182), and Bryce Hoyle (195).

Hansen told Raccoon Valley Radio he likes the chances of this team continuing to get better as the start of the postseason on Feb. 2 grows nearer. “I think we can have a bunch of people go to Districts and get a couple of people to State, too. That’s the main goal. I think we could have a couple place winners. We’re a solid team from top to bottom.”

The competition toughens up this week as the Rams face Class 2A number one ranked PCM in Monroe on Thursday as part of a double-dual, which also includes South Hamilton (Jewell). Saturday means a trip to Eldora for the South Hardin Invitational, which features Class 1A second rated Denver, among other quality teams.
