With some usually warm temperatures over the next few days and no real threat of snowfall in the immediate forecast, Jefferson residents are reminded of a resource to get rid of unnecessary yard waste.
The yard waste dump site is located at Daubendiek Park. City Administrator Mike Palmer says residents can drop off brush, grass clippings, leafs and tree limbs and small pieces of concrete. He adds that residents pay a $1 monthly fee toward the site. “And that goes just to maintain that yard waste site. We don’t burn out there anymore. We bring in a service that actually mulches it and grinds it down and just to haul everything away.”
Palmer reminds everyone that it’s only for Jefferson residents and that any materials outside of yard waste is not allowed to be dumped out there.
“Citizens do a great job of just policing that themselves. But if you do see something, please just say something. Come to City Hall and let someone know, if you can get a description of the car or a license plate (number) is great (or) if you see a police officer report it. We have a pretty good track record of investigating that and finding out where some of that material comes from.”
