A Guthrie County native was sworn in this week as the new county attorney.

Brenna Bird (R) was elected last November after running unopposed for the seat. Bird has practiced law for 18 years and resides with her husband and son on her family farm in southeastern Guthrie County. She shares why she sought the position of county attorney, “I just wanted to come back home. I went down to Fremont County because I wanted the chance to be a prosecutor and when this opportunity opened up I was very glad to be able to run for Guthrie County Attorney and serve close to home.”

Bird says her goals in the short term are to foster a good relationship with local law enforcement and develop a more electronic and paperfree attorney’s office. A long term goal is to start a county attorney debt collection program to allow criminal defendants to enroll in payment plans, which Bird says can be a win-win for the County and for defendants.
