The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Wednesday morning for their first regular session of 2019, which was moved from its normal day due to the New Year’s holiday on Tuesday.
The meeting began at the courthouse, as the re-elected Supervisors, Treasurer, and Recorder, as well as the new County Attorney, were sworn in for their new terms. The session then shifted to the Board of Supervisors meeting room, where the first action item was the appointment of Mark Hanson as the Board Chairperson for 2019. However, outgoing Board Chair Brad Golightly led the remainder of the meeting. The Board then approved the Weed Commissioner’s annual report from Jim Uthe, who went over the current status of invasive plant species in the County.
The Board then approved the appointment of a Deputy Treasurer, seven Assistant County Attorneys, and a Deputy Recorder. Other items approved included: fiscal year 2019 appropriations; appointments for Board assignments, official newspapers and depositories, Eminent Domain Compensation Commission, and Boone Township Clerk; and the abatement of $49,466 in real estate taxes for Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation. The Board also discussed but took no action on the HIRTA and Homecare provider services.
The meeting concluded with the approval of purchasing the building located at 910 Court Street for $140,000. The facility once housed the Auditor’s election offices, and will now be used for storage of election equipment and a few other purposes, though it will not be used for voting or tabulation.
