Will Hansen’s varsity career record on the wrestling mat hovered right around the .500 mark his first two years of high school. The Greene County junior is putting together his best season so far with 15 wins and just five losses for first year head coach Zach Beekman’s Rams. Hansen started the season at 152 lbs., but dropped down to 145 just before the break. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the improvement. “I wrestled two to three times a week in Des Moines in the Spring and Summer and I can into open mats all Summer. I think my mindset’s gotten a lot better, too.” Hansen talked about his plan of attack on the mat. “I plan to go out there and just get it done. Get a couple of takedowns, then after the third or fourth, take him to his back and pin him.”

Greene County starts the 2019 portion of the schedule tomorrow in Ogden vs. the host Bulldogs, Southeast Valley (Gowrie), and Audubon. They’ll get on the bus Friday for a tournament in Alleman hosted by North Polk, then have Saturday off.

The Rams have just one month of the regular season left. They’ll compete on Saturday, Feb. 2 in a Class 2A Sectional at Ida Grove.
