Conservation departments around the United States are gearing up for their favorite holiday tradition, and Dallas County is no different, as they are ready to send people out for the annual Christmas Bird Count.

Outreach Coordinator Ken Keffer says Dallas County Conservation will conduct their bird count on Saturday, December 15th, and they’re looking for locals to help out. “It’s the oldest citizens science project around. We have volunteers that go out, and they count all of the birds they find in a 15-mile circle. But we break up into teams, (so) you don’t need to be a great birder to be involved (because) we’ll match you up with someone with more experience. So a big chunk of Dallas County is what we need to cover in that day. It’s a great opportunity to get out there and kind of connect with nature!”

There is no cost to participate in the Christmas Bird Count, though registration is required. More information will be given to attendees when they sign up.
