Youth in kindergarten through sixth grade looking to learn a second language are invited to a new class at the Greene County Community Center.

The Beginning Spanish Class will take place from January 2nd through the 4th from 10 to 11:30am for kindergarten through second grade and 1 to 2:30pm for third through sixth graders. The classes will be led by Jefferson Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Emily Vander Wilt. She minored in Spanish at the University of Northern Iowa. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says it’s nice to have someone on her staff who speaks Spanish and can teach youngsters the language.

“We’re very beneficial to have her able to teach Spanish. It’s very helpful to have a second language. And I think the kids will really appreciate her, she really can get down to their level and help them understand what she’s teaching them.”

The cost to participate is $10 per person. Call 386-3412 or stop by the community center to sign up.
