The Perry Public Library recently rolled out their Adventure Pass program, and while Library Director Mary Murphy says it’s been popular so far, she encourages even more people to give adventuring a try.

Murphy says anyone over 18-years-old who has a library card in good standing can check out a pass to two popular Des Moines destinations as if it were a library book. “We’re just dipping our toe in the water, and doing the Science Center and the Blank Park Zoo this year. And it’s pretty cool, because you can check out a pass, and a pass is for two adults and two children to go to either one of those once a year for free!”

Murphy says they will look into adding more locations next year if the program is successful. She also notes that people have expressed concern about cancelling their Adventure Pass check-outs, but assures cancellation can be handled easily and without consequence. “If something comes up that you can’t go that day, then you just call us and we’ll make them (your passes) void and you can still have your place once a year. That’s what people are afraid of, if they do it too early that something might come up.”

Murphy adds, you can check out an Adventure Pass on the day you plan on using it, which she believes is ideal for when family comes to visit and you need something fun to do with them.
