The ACGC wrestling team closed out a productive 2018 with a split at the Van Meter-Earlham quadrangular Thursday. The Chargers dropped the opening dual to VM-E 18-61 but bounced back to trounce East Union for the second time this season, 48-18.
The Chargers 18 points in the first dual all came by pin fall. Sophomore Gunnar Larsen (126) dropped Korbin Barek in 3:24, senior Gabe Rowley (138) dispatched Dalten Van Pelt in 59 seconds, and senior Ben Kingery (195) collected another individual win with a pin at 1:24.
The Chargers collected nine weight class victories over the East Union Eagles. Those that won by fall include Blaine Beeler (120) and Trevin Suhr (132), both of which defeated their opponent in less than two minutes. Seth Daker (113) and Rowley grabbed four point major decision victories for three points each. The gold and black swept up their remaining 30 points with five forfeits.
The Chargers finish 2018 with a dual record of 8-2. Their first action of 2019 will come on Thursday, January 3rd with a quadrangular at Griswold.
