The final contest of the calendar year keeps the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys basketball team at home tonight. The North Polk Comets soar into Adel’s North Gym for a nonconference game. These two teams are future league foes as North Polk and Gilbert are expected to join the Raccoon River Conference starting the 2020-2021 school year. ADM won last year’s meeting in Alleman, 75-49.
Tuesday’s 58-51 loss to the Carroll Tigers snapped ADM’s five-game overall winning streak. ADM, who scored 17 points in the first and third quarters, scored 17 points combined in the second and fourth quarters in the setback. ADM head boys basketball coach Aaron Mager shared with Raccoon Valley Radio that he felt fatigue played a role in the outcome. “I don’t think we looked like we had some of the same pep that we normally had (tonight),” Mager said, “I told the guys ‘I’m not interested in excuse’ we can blame the schedule, we played Saturday and all that stuff, but you got to execute. When you’re tired, that’s when you really have to do that, and we didn’t execute very well, mentally or physically tonight, and that’s frustrating.”
Today marks the fourth game for ADM boys basketball since December 14, winning road games at Perry (63-10) and Gilbert (67-63) on back to back days last Friday and Saturday. The Comets of the Heart of Iowa Activites Conference posts a 2-5 overall record. North Polk lost their recent league contest versus South Hamilton, 66-52, on the road Tuesday night. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will provide live play by play coverage of tonight’s varsity boys game on True Country K 107.9, starting with pregame comments at 7 p.m. and tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
