The final varsity doubleheader of the 2018 calendar year takes place tonight at home for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers basketball teams. The Carroll Tigers are making their annual visit to Adel this evening for a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader. ADM and Carroll split last year’s season series in girls basketball with the road team winning each contest. Carroll won both boys games a season ago by more than 20 point margins.
The ADM girls basketball team (7-2 overall; 4-0 RRC) had their six-game winning streak snapped over the weekend against the Gilbert Tigers, 77-55. Gilbert outscored ADM, 63-38, the final three quarters after trailing 17-14 at the end of the first. Juniors Abbie Hlas and Delaney Bertman are tied as the team’s leading scorer, recording 118 points each through the Tigers’ first nine games. Hlas has dished out a team-best 31 assists while Bertman tops ADM with 52 total rebounds. ADM leads the Raccoon River Conference with 104 total steals. The Carroll Tigers (4-2 overall; 1-2 RRC) are in the midst of back-to-back losses inside the league after winning their first four games of the 2018-19 season. Their latest setback came Friday at Winterset, falling 56-46 to the Huskies.
The ADM boys basketball team (5-1 overall; 4-0 RRC) is in the middle of their longest winning streak in almost seven years. ADM’s 67-63 victory over the Gilbert Tigers Saturday marked the fifth straight win for the Tigers. That’s the most consecutive wins for ADM boys basketball since winning seven straight games to qualify for the Class 3A State Basketball tournament in 2012. ADM tops the Raccoon River Conference in total assists, dishing out 98 dimes through six games. Carroll is the only other Raccoon River Conference boys basketball team without a league loss, winning their first three conference games. Their latest victory came in Winterset Friday night, displacing the Huskies, 69-61.
