It’s the holiday season and as we get closer to Christmas, the need for food donations continues to increase in our communities.

The Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC) stresses the need for non-perishable food items, along with any monetary donations so they can purchase specific items from area grocery stores at a reduced rate and from the Food Bank of Iowa. ARC Board President Pastor Julie Poulsen says they will also accept meat donations as well.

“And we’re so grateful. And we do remind people, try to keep those meat donations to like a pound of hamburger or a small package because many of our clients are single persons or just one or two in the household.”

Site Manager Diane Blackmer says food donations can be made anytime by contacting her at 370-0650 or when the food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30am. She points out. volunteers are also welcomed to help, especially until they move into their new building at the former Clark Plumbing and Heating building on North Vine Street.

“We do need people to come in sometime during the week and help to fill the bags that we give to families and stock shelves. That can be arranged for anytime during the day or evening. We’ll have someone there to explain what needs to be done. All volunteers are welcomed.”

Contact Blackmer to learn more about being a volunteer or to donate food by calling her at 370-0650.
