Greene County High School senior Bryce Hoyle received word late last week he has been selected to play in the Iowa Shrine Bowl, the longtime football All-Star charity game pitting players from throughout the state on the North and South teams. The game raises funds to benefit Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, treating youngsters at no cost to the families.

Hoyle told Raccoon Valley Radio the selection is a big honor. “It means a lot. Getting your hard work recognized. It’s a great opportunity and kind of humbling to know I put in so much work and that it’s gotten recognized.” Hoyle was named to first team All-State as a defensive lineman from multiple sources following the Rams’ 8-2 season in 2018. His junior campaign saw the Rams go 1-8, so it was quite a turnaround for the team and the individual.

He hopes to play small college football, but is undecided where at this point. Some of his fellow Shrine Bowlers will be playing DI college football, and perhaps, one day, play professionally. He talked about being with that caliber of player. “It’s pretty cool. It’s definitely going to be a different type of linemen than I’m used to. A lot of those guys are 6′ 5″ and bigger and carry quite a bit of weight on their legs. But, I’ll go into it the same way I go into everyone thing else, and try to be faster and work harder than everyone else.” Hoyle was listed at 5′ 9″ 210 lbs. and he’s at 195 lbs. for the Greene County wrestling team. He’s been sidelined with mono, but expects to begin workouts over the upcoming break from school.

The Shrine Bowl will be played inside the air conditioned UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, July 20. He reports to training camp on July 14.
