The ACGC wrestling team traveled north to Ogden Saturday to compete in the West Central Activities Conference wrestling tournament. The Chargers finished fifth as a team out of eight participating schools.
While there were no individual champions for the gold and black, sophomore Seth Danker (113) and senior Blaine Beeler (120) finished in 2nd place. Danker received a bye in the quarterfinals before besting Aidan Honkomp of Woodward-Granger in the semis by a 7-1 decision. Beeler needed two wins to get to the finals, recording pins over Jackson Jordan of Pleasantville and Zane Dodson of Van Meter/Earlham.
Both Danker and Beeler came up short against wrestlers from Interstate-35. Danker lost to Reuben Smith on a 6-3 major decision while Beeler fell to Casey Baker in 2:42. Danker’s record now sits at 10-2 on the year while Beeler sits at 13-5. Four other Chargers finished in 3rd, including: Cale Rowley (126), Gunnar Larsen (132), Gabe Rowley (145), and Ben Kingery (195). The Chargers collected 123.5 points, just 9.5 behind West Central Valley.
ACGC was set to have another contender in senior Easton Benson (138). But Benson suffered a left shoulder injury in his quarterfinal victory over Panorama’s Jacob Holwegner. The injury is not expected to be season-ending. The Chargers will wrap up their 2018 season with a quadrangular at Van Meter on Thursday.
