Greene County High School football player Bryce Hoyle talked with Raccoon Valley Radio recently. At 5′ 9″, 210 lbs., Hoyle defied the odds his senior season and was named a Class 2A first team All-State defensive lineman from multiple sources. Also, a guard on offense, the three-year starter talked about how soon to be departing head coach Mitch Moore helped him. “Coach Moore has done a lot for me. He kind of opened my eyes showing me what dedication really is. Not being selfish and helping to better everyone else. He always preached during practices you’re always as good as your worst player. And so, as a leader, being able to get the bottom tier to move up and shorten the gap between everyone else, certainly makes the team better. This year was a perfect example of how being all one at the same level to compete.”
Moore announced to the team on Friday morning he will be leaving the Greene County program and become the Des Moines Roosevelt head coach. In two seasons here, Coach Moore went 9-10 overall. His first season was in Class 3A and the Rams were 1-8. In 2018, the 2A Rams were 8-1 in the regular season, top 10 rated, tying for first place in District 9, a playoff qualifier, and producing a final record of eight wins and two losses. The wins were the most for a Jefferson-based football team since 2007, when that team also went 8-2.
