The fundraising goal to purchase a new building for the Greene County food pantry has been met, but money is still needed to complete the overall project.
Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC) Board Chair Pastor Julie Poulsen confirms to Raccoon Valley Radio that they’ve raised over $73,000 to purchase the former Clark Plumbing and Heating building on North Vine Street. She points out that they want to raise $99,000 overall to help with renovations and improvements. ARC Assistant Director Shirley Haupert explains some of the project details.
“It’s probably at least a two, maybe a three-phase project. The building really is in very good shape. It needs to be cleaned, we need painting done, and we’d like to get some new flooring in it because two of the areas are all concrete, kind of a warehouse concrete. Those are the areas where the food will be stored, so obviously if something is dropped like a jar of spaghetti sauce, we don’t have stains on the concrete. Another big part of it is we need some concrete that’s going to have to be put in on the east side of that property.”
Other project areas include replacing walls, doors and windows, building some shelves and adding lights. They hope to start the remodeling work next month. Donations can be made to Greene County ARC and dropped off at their current location at 112 East Harrison Street.
