Elks Hoop Shoot

The Perry Elks Club recently held their annual local Hoop Shoot contest, and six sharpshooters are now headed to the district contest in January.

There were three age groups, with boys and girls divisions for each, and they competed last Saturday at Perry Middle School. The winners included: Kayley Snowgren from Perry in 8-9 girls and Reid Iben from Perry in 8-9 boys; Karagyn Whelchel from Perry in 10-11 girls and Trey Boettcher from Panorama in 10-11 boys; and Tyme Boettcher from Panorama in 12-13 girls and Kaelan Davis from Perry in 12-13 boys. Competitors were welcome from the Perry, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, Woodward-Granger, Panorama, or Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center school districts. Each participant took a set amount of free throws, and the one who made the most was named the victor.

The six winners will now compete at the district contest to be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Mary’s High School in Storm Lake. Those who win there will advance to the state competition on February 9th in Grinnell. After that, the North Central Region 3 semi-finals will be held on March 9th in Iowa City, and the national finals will be on April 27th in Chicago.
