Woodward residents are reminded to vote today in order to elect the City’s new mayor and Council member.
The polls are open between 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Woodward United Methodist Church. Todd Folkerts, who was initially appointed as mayor by the City Council following the resignation of former Mayor Brian Devick, is the only name voters will find on their ballot for the office of mayor, though there could be a write-in campaign. Also on the ballot are three individuals running to fill Folkerts’ vacated Council seat, which include Kelly Kirts, Franklin Weatherbee, and David Whitney.
Devick resigned his office in September, citing growing health concerns, and the Council originally planned to fill his position by appointment. Residents had other plans, though, as they submitted a petition to demand the special election. The candidates chosen today will serve the remainder of the terms vacated, which for both offices is one more year. Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio tomorrow for results from the Woodward special election.
