An influx in submitted names for a Guthrie County Veterans Memorial addition now has the memorial committee requesting the public’s help in further funding to complete this project.
The memorial committee plans to erect black granite walls beside the current veterans memorial outside the Guthrie County Courthouse. The idea is to list the names of county veterans of all branches of service, and when the drive was initiated, their goal was to get 400 names. After the deadline passed on November 1st, more than 750 names had been submitted at a price of $30 each. So far the donations collected provide funding for three walls but a fourth wall is needed for all the names and any to be added in the future. The committee is asking for an additional $13,000 to complete the project. Donations can be mailed to Trudi Tam at 2692 Wagon Road, Stuart, IA 50250.
