Students in Dallas and Guthrie counties are encouraged to take part in the annual Elks Club Hoop Shoot contest, which will be held this Saturday in Perry.
There are six different competitions kids can take part in, which include boys and girls divisions in 8-9 year old, 10-11 year old, and 12-13 year old age groups. The event will be held at the Perry Middle School gymnasium, which will open up for kids to practice at 1 p.m. The contest itself will run from 2-3:30, and involves seeing who can make the most free throws of a set amount of attempts. The winners of each competition will then advance to the district contest, which will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s School in Storm Lake. Winners there will advance to the state competition on February 9th, at Grinnell College.
Students eligible for the Perry Elks Hoop Shoot contest include those in the Perry School District, as well as Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Panorama, and Woodward-Granger. Participants’ age groups are determined by their age as of April 1, 2019.
