When first-year head coach Dan Baker took the helm of the ACGC girls basketball team last spring, he promised the school district 16 wins. Despite the fact that the team has a combined six wins in their first two years, Baker has led the Chargers to a 3-0 start going into an early West Central Activities Conference showdown tonight with the Des Moines Christian Lions.
The Lions come into tonight’s contest at 2-2 overall. They opened the season with two home losses to Grinnell and Central Decatur, before rattling off two straight lopsided victories at home against Earlham and at Perry. Sophomore Moriah Prewitt leads the Lions in scoring, while senior Kaili Lawson leads the team in rebounds, blocks, and steals.
The Chargers are fresh off their largest margin of victory in program history with a 64-30 win over the Grand View Christian Thunder. Freshman Chloe Largent, who scored just six points in her first two career starts, put up 15 to lead all scores. Sophomore Jorja Hoover also tied a career-high ten points and added nine rebounds for the gold and black. Another historical milestone was also reached last night when senior Jadeyn Carrick became just the second player in program history to eclipse 200 career points. Ten different players found the scoring column, also a program record.
With no Adel-Desoto-Minburn games tonight, the ACGC doubleheader has been flexed up to True Country K107.9, RaccoonValleyRadio.com, and the KKRF mobile app. Tip-off is set for 6pm from Guthrie Center with the boys game to follow.
