The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, Assistant County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed two topics. He said a committee is interviewing candidates for his current position and will have a recommendation by next week for the Board’s approval. The other item was about the current 28E agreement for the animal shelter. He said the last update was in 2000, when the Supervisors agreed to pay $1,500 in annual expenses to the shelter. It was mentioned to Laehn that there was an informal agreement to increase the amount to $6,000 per year. Laehn agreed to draft proposals of amendments to the 28E agreement for the Board to approve and the Board agreed with that course of action.
The Supervisors also heard a Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) Mental Health Region update. The Board agreed to support the “Step It Up” Initiative as part of the jail diversion program.
The Board then heard updates and 2020 fiscal year funding requests from RSVP 55+ and ACCESS Assault Care Center. RSVP 55+ requested $2,500 and ACCESS requested $5,000. The Board took no action on the requests. The Board approved the certification of the 2018 fiscal year cost allocation plan for the indirect costs of services to the county, as well as the homestead credit and military exemption disallowances as presented. Additionally, the Board approved the request for an engineer’s report for 3.8 miles for an open ditch cleanout project for drainage district 187.
Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave a few updates. He said Brooks, Borg and Skiles would like to present an update to the Board on December 17th on the heating and cooling project for the courthouse. However, he didn’t believe any construction would start next year. He also wanted to look at laying out new procedures once the secondary roads department’s union is dissolved at the end of next June.
