It’s now December, which means the Raccoon Valley Radio Caring Christmas Food Drive is starting to ramp up.
The Big Red Radio and Little Big Red Radio will be out at an assortment of locations throughout the listening area this week, starting with two stops today. We will be collecting food and cash donations at the Perry Hy-Vee from 3-5 p.m. today, and following that we’ll have a stop at 209 Main Street in Paton from 5-7. Locations for the rest of the week include: Tomorrow from 1-3 p.m. at Greene County High School in Jefferson; Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Perry Hy-Vee, and 5-7 at the Adel Family Fun Center; Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Hometown Foods in Stuart, 4-6 at the Perry Fareway, and 4-6 at Hometown Foods in Panora; Friday from 1-3 p.m. at People’s Bank in Adel, and 3-6 at Adel Winterset T.V. and Appliance; and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at People’s Bank in Waukee, and 10-noon at the Perry Hy-Vee.
At each of the stops, people can donate anything they can spare, with all of it going to the food shelf nearest the location. Raccoon Valley Radio General Manager John McGee says it’s important to keep the food pantries stocked at all times, but it’s crucial at this time of year. “At the holidays, cash gets a lot tighter for a lot of families out there. You can make cash donations while we’re on site at area locations. You can ring it up at the register, most of our grocery stores will work with us there while we’re on site that way. Or in between our broadcasts, there’s food collection boxes out at these grocery stores, and some of our participating businesses. Just drop your items in there!”
McGee also reminds people that when they donate food or cash while the Big Red Radios are on location, they become instant qualifiers for our $1,000 giveaway. You can also register at participating locations throughout the listening area.
