As a freshman last season, Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s AJ Smith converted just four of her 25 free throw attempts during her first season of varsity basketball. She redeemed herself at the charity stripe in a big way Friday night in ADM’s Raccoon River Conference opener against the Ballard Bombers. Smith banked in a free throw with 15.2 seconds left in overtime, giving the Tigers a 52-48 lead over the Ballard Bombers. Ballard wasn’t able to bring the score any closer as ADM improved their early season record to 3-1. Smith finished the night making four of her seven free throw attempts against the Bombers, entering the contest making one of her first four charity stripe shots. The ADM girls basketball team is idle tomorrow night as they’ll resume their Raccoon River Conference season this Friday at Mel Penrod Gymnasium against the Winterset Huskies.
