ACGC senior grappler Gabe Rowley had a career season on the football field as one of the featured running backs for the Chargers. Rowley is picking up right where he left off to start the wrestling season, keeping his undefeated record and capturing the 152 pound title Saturday at the Coach Riley Invitational at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield.

Rowley, who started his day with a bye in the quarterfinal round, faced AHSTW’s Denver Pauley in the semifinals. Rowley dispatched Pauley with a fall at 1:19 to advance to the finals. There he faced Central Decatur’s Elliot Ness. Rowley handed the senior his first loss of the season after recording the fall at 3:48. Rowley improves to 5-0 on the season.

Sophomore Gunnar Larsen also advanced to the title round in the 132 pound class. Larsen started his day with a quarterfinal pin over Zethann May of Clarke at 1:34. He followed that up with a semifinal pin over Quentin Gregg of Mount Ayr at 2:28 to reach the final. He went toe-to-toe with Tyler Haynes of Van Meter-Earlham. The pair were scoreless going into the final minute of the third period, but an escape point was all Haynes needed to record the 1-0 victory. Larsen’s record now stands at 5-1 on the young season.

Five other Chargers finished in 3rd, including: Dawson Muller (113), Blaine Beeler (126), Trevin Suhr (138), Easton Benson (145), and Ben Kingery (195). The team finished in 2nd place out of nine teams, scoring 115 total points. Van Meter-Earlham dominated the tournament, winning with 185.5 points. Next up for the Chargers is a home triangular against Bedford-Lenox and Coon Rapids-Bayard.
