Greene County High School football player Tyler Miller announced Thursday he would be attending Iowa State University and joining the Cyclones in 2020. Recruited as an offensive left tackle, the 6′ 9″, 285 lbs. high school junior was offered a scholarship by ISU head coach Matt Campbell a year ago. Several other DI offers have followed.
Mitch Moore was a football recruiter working on Coach Campbell’s staff before taking the Greene County head coaching job in the Winter of 2017. Coach Moore was asked by Raccoon Valley Radio, what influence, if any, he had on Miller’s decision to become a Cyclone. “I did a really good job with Tyler and his Mom and Dad of staying out of any giving any pointers of where we thought he should go. I took him to places, Nebraska, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Iowa City, as well as Iowa State, and told him he had to explore all his options because ultimately it would come down to where he feels is the best fit.”
Coach Moore added he feels the decision came down to the relationship Matt Campbell and his staff were able to build with Tyler and the trust they formed with each other, and that’s where the decision was made.”
Miller was named a first team all-state player in Class 2A following the 2018 season when the Rams turned a record of 1-8 in 2017 into 8-2 in 2018. The Rams were District 9 co-champions and earned a berth in the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Miller and several other key players return for Coach Moore and the Rams in 2019.
Two other former Greene County players are on the ISU football team in Daric Whipple and Noah Juergensen.
