The high school girls’ basketball season is underway and tomorrow night Greene County visits Jewell to play South Hamilton in the first Heart of Iowa Activities Conference game of the season. First year head coach Tyler Westhoff has seen his team drop a pair of non-conference contests to begin the season. The Rams lost 48-27 on Monday night in Jefferson to Ogden, then a Tuesday night road game in Perry resulted in a 44-29 loss. The opponents scored a combined 39 points in the first quarter to just eight for the Rams.

Coach Westhoff talks about the scoring. “We’re aiming to get some consistency right out of the gate for us. We want to get the energy flowing right away instead of just in the second half, then see where we can go from there.”

South Hamilton is 1-1 on the young season. They defeated Collins-Maxwell and lost to South Central Calhoun (Lake City).

Both ends of the Friday night girl/boy basketball twin bill will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
