The promotion of high school wrestling in Iowa is something that has become important to West Central Valley first-year head coach Ben Strandberg. “We’re in a sport that it wasn’t but a handful of years ago that we were fighting to keep it in the Olympics,” Strandberg said, “To me, promoting the sport of wrestling is a huge part it, not just the teams I worked with but teams all over.”
Strandberg’s found a way to help promote the sport through photography and partnered up with Tony Hager and the website IAWrestle.com to help showcase wrestling through images and graphic design. “It’s kind of a side project passion for me,” Strandberg said, “I also use that to promote my own programs.”
Strandberg started taking pictures for other West Central Valley varsity sports teams this fall and will continue capturing photos during the winter sports months. You can find some of Strandberg’s recent wrestling photos on multiple social media websites like Facebook and Twitter under the handle WCV Wrestling. The West Central Valley varsity wrestling team opens the 2018-19 dual season tomorrow evening in Stuart, hosting a quadrangular event featuring grapplers from AC/GC, East Union, and Nodaway Valley.
