The Greene County boys and Perry girls were non- conference high school basketball winners in Perry on Tuesday night. The doubleheader was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Perry won the girls’ game 44-29 and the Rams won the boys’ game by a 69-46 final.

The Perry girls are now 1-2 while the Rams fell to 0-2. Molly Lutmer led the Jayettes with 16 points and Ainsley Marburger added 12. The Rams were led in scoring by junior Bailey Cunningham with 10 points. Perry led 18-3 after the first quarter. In its first two games, the Rams have been out scored 39-8 in the opening quarter.

Greene County improved to 2-0 in boys’ basketball while Perry was playing its first game. The Blue Jays are coached by former Rams’ assistant Aaron Lyons, and Dean Lyons, Aaron’s Dad, and former Greene County girls’ head coach, is Perry’s assistant coach.

Muhamed Abdelnabi led the Blue Jays with 23 points. He scored the first 13 points for the Blue Jays, who went 12-plus minutes to start the game with only Abdelnabi scoring.

The Rams were led by junior Carter Morton’s 24 points, a career high. Senior Trey Hinote added 21 points, and senior Lance Hughes scored 11. Greene County did not score for the first three minutes, 35 seconds of the game, and trailed 8-2 before going on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter. A 29 point second period put the Rams up 40-21 at intermission.

The Greene County teams open Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play on Friday night in Jewell vs. South Hamilton. Those games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage beginning at 6 p.m.
