A pair of six-foot post players couldn’t contain Adel-Desoto-Minburn junior forward Delaney Bertman Tuesday night. Bertman posted a season-high 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists as the ADM Tigers girls basketball team returned to the win column with a 62-51 victory over the Pella Christian Eagles on the road last night. Bertman caught up with the Raccoon Valley Radio Network after her double-double performance against the Eagles and said the overall team speed played a factor in the victory. “I think (the key to the game) was our speed,” Bertman said, “Our coach told us that we were faster than them, we can beat them, and so that was a huge thing. I was trying to use my moves to get around (the opposing players).”
The game featured six lead changes and five ties all coming in the first half. Eighteen of Bertman’s 24 points came inside the paint, converting all four of her free throw attempts. Junior guard Abbie Hlas poured in 18 points. Both Bertman and Hlas tied for the team lead with three steals each. The win keeps the ADM Tigers girls basketball team undefeated against the Little Hawkeye Conference, improving their overall record to 2-1. The Tigers return to practice today ahead of their Raccoon River Conference opener Friday night against the Ballard Bombers.
