With the possibility of snow this weekend, Jefferson residents are reminded of the City’s snow ordinance.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says any time there’s one-half-inch of accumulated snowfall, vehicles are to be removed from all city streets, alleyways and city-owned off-street parking until the snow event has ended and the roads have been cleared from curb to curb. Clouse points out that officers don’t write tickets as soon as the ordinance goes into effect.
“This is a tool for us to ensure that our public works folks have clear streets to remove the snow. So basically once that snowplow has gone around your vehicle, clearly showing that they’ve plowed around your vehicle, that’s when we go ahead and issue the citation.”
Clouse adds, the ordinance is slightly different for the downtown square. Vehicles are not allowed to park around the square when the snow ordinance is in effect, from 2 to 6am. Anyone with questions about the ordinance can contact City Hall at 386-2155.
