The Perry Jayette basketball team will play their home opener tonight at the Perry Sports Pavilion when they welcome 0-1 Newton for a non-conference game. Perry will look to rebound from a heartbreaking overtime loss to Des Moines North last Friday night. Head coach Skylar Wolfe was still trying to regain his voice after his career debut as a head coach. “It was a lot of fun. I certainly saw a lot of positive things and was really impressed with the way our girls executed in the fourth quarter. It was fun to see.”
Wolfe is hoping for improvement in one key area tonight. “I think we can still do a better job at communicating on defense. North had a really good guard who was quick and aggressive and I thought we could have done a much better job with our defensive communication and helping each other out. Hopefully that will come with more experience.”
Perry and Newton will play a varsity game at 7:15 tonight and Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
