The Guthrie Center Community School Board convened Monday in regular session.
The Board approved changing a 28E agreement with Adair-Casey for media specialist Megan Farnsworth from having her at 20% to 10%. Superintendent Steve Smith gave impetus for the decision, “On that 28E agreement that we’ve done we were going to go 20%, 80% because we thought we were going to get operational sharing money. Well, this last legislative session they cut out library media specialists as one of the positions that you could do that with.” This change is subject to the Adair-Casey School Board’s approval.
Next, the Board approved a School Budget Review Committee request of $13,328 for open enrollment out of the District and $2,972 for English Language Learner students served beyond five years. The Board approved changes to its early retirement policy and approved offering it this year. They also approved changes to the policy 500 series encompassing student attendance, and changes to policies regarding accounting practices, investments, payment for goods and services, the school nutrition program, and free or reduced cost meal eligibility.
Board President Wes Policky mentioned the feedback received on the District’s superintendent survey which will be discussed further at the joint Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center School Board closed session on December 5th. As of Monday, the District has received three completed applications for a new superintendent, and they expect to receive several more before applicant interviews happen on December 19th.
