The ACGC girls basketball team will open their third season in program history tonight at home against the Audubon Wheelers. The Chargers are 0-2 all time against Audubon, falling in both the previous two season openers to their rivals to the west.
Three of the five expected starters for tonight’s matchup will be making their first career start. Freshman Chloe Largent, sophomore Kylie Young, and senior Genevieve Hoover will make their debut in the ACGC starting five while junior Kennedy Young will be making her second career start and sophomore Jorja Hoover will be in the starting lineup for the fourth time. Senior Sierra O’Brien, who scored a game-high 15 points against the Wheelers last season, will start the game on the bench tonight.
First-year head coach Dan Baker talks about his expectations heading into this season. “Right now my expectation is for us to come out and play hard every night, to know what our assignment is, to know where we belong, and to play team basketball. I’ve told the girls we maybe don’t have the superstars on our lineup, but I’d take our five or our ten, whatever it is, against anybody else’s five or ten.”
In last year’s 52-50 win over the Chargers, sophomore Leah Subbert scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Wheelers. Four of the top five Wheeler scorers from last year are listed on this year’s roster. You can hear the game live on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Pre-game begins around 7:15pm with tip-off set for 7:30 from Guthrie Center.
