A Clive man totaled a vehicle and struck another after falling asleep at the wheel in Guthrie Center.
According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office at about 6:01 a.m. on November 7th, 53-year-old Thomas Antonio Harrington was driving a rented Nissan Versa westbound on State Street at the intersection of South 4th Street, when he admittedly fell asleep while driving and woke up when his vehicle was at its side. Harrington’s car jumped the northwest curb of the intersection, struck a light pole and then overturned onto its driver’s side. The car slid on its side for about 100 feet and struck a parked Chevy truck, and spun around on its driver’s side and came to rest facing eastbound. The driver was uninjured and both vehicles were towed from the scene. The City was informed of the light pole destroyed in the incident. Harrington was cited for failure to maintain control and for striking an unattended vehicle.
