
Don’t forget, today and tomorrow is the 9th annual Art on the Prairie, which is taking place at several locations throughout downtown Perry.
There are around 70 artists, 30 musicians, 12 poets, and four authors who will be exhibiting their work in 10 buildings this year, which is the most participation in the event’s history. Locations include: Hotel Pattee and La Poste, which are serving as the unofficial hubs for the festivities; the Perry Public Library and Carnegie Library Museum; Perry City Hall, also known as the Security Bank Building; the Towncraft Building; Betsy Peterson Designs; and Salvaged Soul, Backwards Properties, and Studio on Second, each of which are new to the festival.
Organizer Jenny Eklund also wants to let people know where they can get some food during the two-day event. Aside from the downtown restaurants, which will all be open, there will also be food offerings from Blackout Barbeque in between La Poste and Mary Rose Collection, as well as in the Cellar at La Poste. Also in the Cellar, Colleen Eckhoff will be operating her famous Bloody Mary Bar, and there will be free chocolate chip cookies in the La Poste main gallery. Additionally, the exhibitors and volunteers we be getting boxed lunches provided by Hotel Pattee.
Finally, don’t forget about the dedication of the final Streetscape sculpture “Furrowed Fields” tonight at 5:30 p.m. The event will be emceed by Raccoon Valley Radio Program Director Chris Cohea. The Big Red Radio will also be at the event, in addition to broadcasting live from Art on the Prairie today from 9 a.m. – noon.
