A Jefferson resident recently became a published author, 20 years after originally writing the book.
Sheryl Peterson has a new book out called “A Step Back” which is a murder mystery that combines fiction as well as non-fiction. The story is about an owner of a landscape business named Jeffrey Andrew. He’s been having the same nightmare every night and he wakes up at the same point in his dream at the same time every night. It’s not until the dreams affect his daily life that he seeks help from a psychiatrist. It’s then through the psychiatrist and a private detective that Andrew realizes the events actually happened.
Peterson talks about how she got the idea to write the book back in 1997. “I actually dreamt the storyline and it came to me just like a movie. I got up the next morning and could remember vividly every single thing that I dreamt about.” She adds that she dictated and recorded the story before transcribing it into a paper document.
When she originally sent it off to a publisher for consideration, it was rejected and Peterson said she couldn’t bare going through that again, putting the story in a closet where it sat for over 20 years. “And then I was encouraged from my family and friends, and of course my husband to get it back out and rework it, and push it through to publication, which we just did.”
Peterson says she got her book published through Amazon and it is available on their e-reader format as well as in paperback. She points out that there are several family and friends that she honors by including parts of their names in her book.
