Allen Eskens

Tomorrow evening, the Dallas County Library Association is presenting part two of this year’s “Dallas County Reads One Book” program, this time focusing on a fiction title and welcoming author Allen Eskens to Perry.

Perry Library Director Mary Murphy says the book serving as the focus for the event is called “The Life We Bury.” She says Eskens is well known to lovers of the mystery genre, and this book was the first he ever published. Murphy adds, she has been trying to have this particular book and author for “Dallas County Reads One Book” for a while, and she believes it’s a title even the most staunch of critics can enjoy. “We actually considered it about three years ago for the book, but did not choose it. The committee came back to it this year, because it has some universal themes in it. And the exciting part is reading ‘The Life We Bury’ in the monthly book group, and everybody pretty much liked it. So this is kind of unusual, for my book group to all give it a thumbs-sideways or a thumbs-up!”

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow with a meet and greet event at Hotel Pattee. Cost to attend is $12 per person, and it includes drinks and hors d’oeuvres provided by the hotel. Tickets can be purchased at any Dallas County public library. The free event will then be held at 7 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center. Following the author talk, people can purchase copies of “The Life We Bury” and its sequel “The Shadows We Hide.” Murphy says this will be an early opportunity to purchase the sequel, as it’s not scheduled for wide release until November 13th.
