Normally, deputies in the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office have to remain clean-shaven, but an exception is being made this year for “No Shave November.”

Sheriff Chad Leonard announced he would authorize his deputies to grow out their beards this month, but it comes at a price: each of the participants will need to donate to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association. The money raised will be put towards the Sheriff’s Office’s annual “Shop with a Cop” and holiday food basket events. Leonard is hopeful there’s lots of participation in “No Shave November,” and that they have some fun pictures with the deputies in full beards by the end of the month.

Additionally, the Benevolent Association is currently accepting applications for families to participate in this year’s “Shop with a Cop.” It’s open to kids age 6-12, and the purpose is to give low-income families a great holiday while also giving them a positive interaction with officers. The deadline to submit nominations is Sunday, November 25th, and the shopping day is scheduled for December 1st. As for the holiday food baskets, those are provided to low-income families who would like to provide their children with a good meal on Christmas Day. The deadline for food basket nominations is December 15th or whenever the list is full, whichever comes first. Click the link below to view the nomination form for both events.
