This Tuesday is Election Day, and one thing that everyone involved is emphasizing is getting voters out to the polls.
One group of people that has historically had low voter turnout numbers is the Latino population, but some in Perry are hoping to reverse that trend this election cycle. Eddie Diaz, Director of the DMACC VanKirk Career Center in Perry, is spearheading a Latino voting rally, which will be held today at the McCreary Community Building. Diaz tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he feels this is perhaps the most important midterm election in recent memory, especially for the Hispanic population of the state and country. With that in mind, he feels it’s important to get as many of those voters to the polls on Tuesday or before.
The rally will begin today at 10 a.m., and will feature Warren Varley, the Democratic candidate for District 20 of the Iowa House of Representatives. In addition to tamales provided for attendees, there will be information on where your voting location is, whether you’re already registered to vote or if you need to do so, and how to register at the polls.
