We’re just days away from the 2018 general election, and one race that people in Dallas County will be keeping a close eye on is the one for United States Congress, District 3, though they’re hardly alone in their interest.

That particular seat in Congress has been under a national microscope, as the race has been very close and it’s considered by most experts to be a possible swing district. Incumbent Republican Congressman David Young is opposed by Democrat Cindy Axne and Libertarian Bryan Jack Holder, and each was featured on last night’s U.S. and Iowa House of Representatives Meet the Candidates Special Edition News Magazine on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network. In case you missed the program, here’s some things to know about each of the three candidates ahead of Election Day:

Young is finishing his second term as the District 3 congressman, having previously been the Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley. If elected to another two-year term, he hopes to improve upon the agricultural economy and continue working on providing Iowans with affordable healthcare. He says voters should choose him because of his record of leadership and problem-solving. Axne won the Democratic primary in June, and has served under three Iowa governors in the past as a member of the departments of Administrative Services, Management, and Natural Resources. She says the issue that comes up most when talking to people, and the one she would focus on if elected, is affordable healthcare for everyone. She hopes the voters choose her because she believes the heart and soul of the state and country are at risk if the current administration continues unchecked.

Finally, Holder has never held public office, though he has run for Congress in the last two election cycles, first as an independent, and second as a Libertarian. If he’s elected, he would like to initiate a restructure of the congressional districts around the nation to more accurately give people representation. He adds, people should vote for him if they want someone who will help restore the Constitution and provide a transparent government.
