The ACGC football team shattered every single major rushing record in their third season.
As a team, the Chargers racked up 2,060 total yards, 11th best in all of Class 1A. Nearly half of that total came off the power runs of senior Ben Kingery. Kingery doubled his own record from last year with ACGC’s first 1,000 yard season in program history. He also set in game records with a 182-yard performance against Clarinda and a 30-attempt effort at Mount Ayr. The 182 yards against Clarinda helped ACGC to a program best 400-yard, five touchdown performance as a team.
Kingery eclipsed the century mark with 1,010 yards, while classmate Gabe Rowley also surpassed Kingery’s mark from last season with 487. Junior quarterback Bryce Littler tallied 146 yards, and freshmen Gavin Cornelison and Charlie Crawford registered 254 and 106 yards respectively to give the gold and black five players over 100 yards for the season.
The Chargers also smashed the rushing touchdown record with 16. Kingery led that category as well with seven individually. ACGC had seven combined rushing touchdowns in their first two seasons. Crawford set a new record for longest rushing touchdown, with a 57-yard scamper against Tri-Center in week four. The increased touchdowns also led to scoring records. The Chargers set a new record for most points scored in a game (38), largest margin of victory (16), and most points per game (14.75).
Arguably though, the most important record was most wins, with three. Littler threw one touchdown pass all season, which was caught by junior Kolby Jacobe. The 17 total touchdowns is also a record. We’ll look at the defensive statistics tomorrow.
