The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday in regular session.

The meeting began with the Board approving a purchase bid of $17,270 for 20 new computers, and will purchase new monitors as needed. David Garland of Guthrie Center Communications gave the Board an IT update. He said that in the last month he saw a significant jump in malicious email activity, and after he blocked emails from foreign addresses the number of malicious activities significantly decreased.

Next, Transfer Station Director Jotham Arber proposed to the Board that the County set up a demanufacturing fund of $7,000 for the transfer station. Arber said the Iowa Department of Natural Resources asked that this fund be in place in order for transfer stations to maintain an appliance demanufacturing permit. Arber said the $7,000 would only be used if the transfer station were to close. The Board tabled their decision until they discuss the issue with County Auditor Marci McClellan. Arber also distributed safety training procedures for transfer station staff as was discussed at the previous supervisors meeting.

The meeting concluded with an update from County Engineer Josh Sebern. He said that preliminary voting results show that the Secondary Roads Department’s union has decided to decertify. Sebern said this was an unexpected move, and he should have more information for the Board in the future.
