The general election is less than a week away, and residents who are currently registered to vote may be listed as inactive.
What does being an inactive voter mean? Guthrie County Deputy Auditor Dani Fink explains, “Basically an inactive voter is you are registered in the system in our voter system that is statewide but you haven’t voted for the last two general elections, so basically you haven’t voted in more than four years.”
If you are an inactive voter and plan to vote at the polls on Election Day you will have to verify your identity. Fink recommends you bring a photo ID and a proof of your current address. If you do not bring either you can still vote, but you will have to fill out a provisional ballot. Fink also recommends updating your registration before Election Day at the Auditor’s Office open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Voters can also update their registration at their local driver’s license office.
